Questionnaire analysis

Most of the people who carried out my questionnaire were mainly teenagers from the age of 14 to 16 years old. There were some people who answered my questionnaire in the age range of 17 to 19 except there was not many people aged 19 years old. So it is very unlikely that older people may not take an interest in my magazine and therefore would not think about purchasing it. The magazine will be for more of the young adolescents.

The people who carried out my questionnaire said that it would be better if my magazine was in bold, bright colours. I also prefer my magazine to stand out so my magazine front cover is going to be very bright and colourful. My R n B music magazine is going to have a very urban vibe to it and should stand out to those who enjoy this particular genre of music. For the people who said that they would not like to see my magazine in bright, bold colours my magazine may not be what they’re looking for and maybe dark colours on a magazine cover is what appeals to them more than a bright music magazine cover. Also the people who didn’t like bright colours and carried out my questionnaire may be Goths or Emos and this means that they prefer dark, gloomy colours and may not like the particular music that will be in my magazine.

Most people prefer to see T-pain on the front of an R’N’B music magazine than any of the other artists that were suggested. Most of the people who carried out my carried out my questionnaire may prefer to see a male artist on the front of a music magazine cover than a female artist. There were a few people who said they would like to see Mariah Carey on the front cover of a music magazine, so they preferred to see a female artist.

The majority of the people said that it is better to have celebrities on the front of a music magazine cover. If there were to be celebrities on my magazine cover it would be used as my central image on the front of my magazine cover. This is a great way to promote celebrities and the magazine especially if it was a first issue.
Other people said that the price is what attracts them to a magazine; this is understandable because not very many people will be able to afford spending huge amounts of money on their favourite magazines. So the price would have to be affordable especially for teenagers.
The rest of the people said that the title is what attracts them to a magazine this is because if they wanted to look for a magazine they would know what they’re looking for.

If a magazine came with free posters people are more likely to buy it because they would not like to pay for posters and if they spent a lot of money on magazines they obviously wouldn’t want to spend much on posters.

The majority of the people who did my questionnaire said that they would purchase a magazine weekly. So this means that they would be able to afford it. Other people said that they would be able to buy it once a month. And for those who probably don’t spend much on magazines and don’t buy them often.

Most people said that if the price of their favourite magazine increased they would not buy it. So it is important to keep the price of a magazine the same price otherwise the magazine will lose out on readers.

If a magazine cover had an article which people didn’t know they said that they would not buy the magazine. So the people who buy magazines know what to expect when buying a magazine and who they want on the front of a magazine cover.

The majority of the people said that the central image is what they look at when buying a music magazine, this is so they know what to look for when buying the magazine, and also if it is someone they like on the front cover then they would obviously take time to look at it. Some said that the title is what they look at first in a magazine because it helps them find what magazine their looking for.
Others said that they look out for freebies when they buy a magazine because it is like a one time thing for each issue usually.

Analysis of Contents Page

Section A






The Kerrang magazine has a use of images inside the magazine on the contents page and it has been constructed by having a load of images of people and with page numbers beside it. At the bottom right hand corner of the contents page there is a picture of three magazines and at the bottom of the picture it says ‘Get it delivered to your door for just £6+ per month’. The picture doesn’t really stand out as much as the other pictures on the contents page but it kind of stands out because it is placed inside a red box and it is different from all of the other pictures and the writing underneath it is a different text colour the rest of the writing on the page because the writing on the page is either black or yellow and the writing underneath the image on the bottom right hand corner is white. It also has a contact number underneath it but in a much smaller font.
The layout of the magazine makes it easier for the readership to find things on the page. I also have images on it so it is very useful for the readers. The style of the magazine is very dark and most especially the celebrities in the magazine as they usually wear dark costumes and dark make up and the readers who love rock would obviously find it interesting and it would appeal to them more than any other magazine. The main colours of the contents page are white, yellow and black. The ‘Contents’ is written in big, block, yellow writing and it is also quite bold. This supports the style of the front cover because it is still quite dark and it has a lot of pictures insides it which readers would like to see. The layout of the magazine is that it has a ‘This week section’ which shows what is inside the issue on that week and the pictures on the left are very well organised and it has one big image on the top left of the group of pictures. This makes it very easy for readers to find things inside the magazine when flicking through it or reading it. This tells us that the magazine is very neat and organised and it is very easy for readers who buy the magazine.



Section B





The difference between these two magazines is that Kerrang! Magazine is mainly aimed at people who love heavy metal rock as this is the main genre focused on in the magazine. These celebrities have their own style and it is either quite gothic or Emo, this means emotional. These celebrities set out an image for their audience and it shows that they try to be role models for them as a lot or their readers love to copy their style. They try to let people know that ‘life is loud’ which is always written underneath the magazine title and basically their just trying to let people know that its okay to be loud and that music doesn’t have to be slow and it can be loud. Also the celebrities in this magazine are quite new and they are much younger than the celebrities in the clash magazine.
The Clash magazine is aimed at an older audience and also it is a variety of different genres of music, for example rock, dance and R n B so it is much more different than the Kerrang magazine because it focuses on other genre’s of music.
