Music magazine analysis

This image of Britney is very different compared to all of her other shots taken for the rollingstone magazine as it is not a mid long shot where it shows her whole body off to all of the readers. This image has been chosen because her face is now in focus rather than her whole body. This magazine cover doesn’t have a setting unlike her other rollingstone covers and this is a really big change for her and for the audience too because it may not be what their used to. The use of black and white is quite significant as it is a very dull colour and these kind of colours could represent death or of something tragic and it sends off that dramatic vibe to the audience. In this magazine cover Britney does not look as happy as she does in her usual magazine covers, where she usually smiles. Instead she looks quite confused and her facial expression looks as if she is upset about something and as it is a close up shot of her face you are quickly drawn to her eyes and your eyes are usually the feature that gives off your emotions. It is as if she wants the readership to feel sorry for her, this also relates to the anchorage text ‘Britney Spears; inside an American tragedy’ so the text is obviously quite tragic as the key word is ‘Tragedy’ and this whole image refers to her downfall which lead to her breakdown. As she was a child prodigy it is very different to see her in a magazine looking so sad and this makes the audience feel very sympathetic towards her. So this would want to make readers want to read her story and what the whole situation on Britney is all about. The main colour used in this magazine is white and yellow and it is in contrast to the shot taken of Britney Spears and it stands out from the cover.

The Evolution Of Britney (Part 2)

In this magazine cover the photo of Britney has been taken as a mid long shot. It has been taken in this way because it is suppose to show off her body to the readership. She does not really have a costume as she is half naked and only wearing white underwear with a pink outline. Her pose is supposed to be very sexy and seductive and she has her body pressed up against the walls and it’s like she is inviting the readership to buy the magazine. It would especially appeal to men because men usually like to see this sort of thing. The Mise en scene of this magazine cover is of Britney between two white walls and the prop that has been used is a white sheet. White usually represents innocence. So this could mean her trying to be innocent again. The lighting is used to highlight her whole body especially her assets, and this attracts the audience even more to the magazine. The main colours that are used in this magazine are white, purple, black, blue and a little bit of red writing on the cover too these colours have been used because they are bold colours and it stands out from the white setting.

The Evolution Of Britney (Part 1)

This picture of Britney Spears is a mid long shot to show off her body. Her costume is a black bra with a white shirt that is undone to flaunt her body and she also has a pair of pink underwear with black polka dots. Her image is being shown as a very young sexy teenager and she is appealing to the male audience.
The props that are being used are a teletubbie and a telephone. The teletubbie represents that she is still young at heart as the toy is mainly for young children and the telephone is a stereo type of young teenagers who spend hours on the phone talking to their friends and this also lets people know that she is a young typical teenager. The Mise En Scene is of Britney lying down on a bed with pink satin sheets, this connotates that the setting is very grown up as it is usually adults who would mainly use satin sheets so this may represent Britney trying to let her audience know that she is growing up. The colours that are used in this magazine are pink, white, and purple. These pink is the main colour of the magazine and this is a typical young girl’s colour and the title is in purple because it stands out from the rest of the magazine cover. The intertextual references being made in this magazine cover is of Lolita. Lolita is a young seductive 14 year old girl who tries to act older. So Britney is copying the image of Lolita as she is a young girl also and also is trying to act older but still young at heart.
